When scuba diving, divers are advised to observe some rules that are designed to protect both the diver and the reef. Some of the rules are:
- Stay at a safe distance from marine life as well as the corals.
- Don’t touch any marine animals and avoid wearing gloves as this tends to make divers careless.
- Don’t chase, grab or block the path of any free-swimming marine animal.
- Avoid collecting any souvenirs from your dives, even dead corals.
- Always enter and exit the water in the designated areas.
- Always check that you are properly weighted and practice your buoyancy control in areas where there is no coral growth.
- take care not to disturb the sand because sand can smother and kill living corals.
