Pulau Tiga Natural Park is one of the popular tourist destination in Sabah, Malaysia. One of the features that Pulau Tiga National Park can offer to tourist and visitors is its unspoiled and pristine natural environment. It’s natural beauty has been protected since 1978. The Pulau Tiga Natural Park of Malaysia has many things to offer to visitors and tourist in terms of natural beauty and attraction.

The Pulau Tiga Natural Park in Malaysia is composed of three islands namely the Pulau Tiga, Pulau Kalampunian Damit and Pulau Kalampunian Besar. The largest of these islands is the Pulau Tiga and the Pulau Kalampunian is well known as the ‘Snake Island’. The Pulau Tiga Natural Park has a beautiful and awesome landscape that attracts many tourist and visitors around the world. It even attracted the CBS TV Network of the USA and use this tropical island paradise as the main location for its SURVIVOR programme, naming it as the ‘Survivor Island’.

The Palau Tiga which means as the ‘Island of Three’ was believed to be formed by a volcanic eruption a long time ago. It was said that there was a large earthquake on September 21, 1897 in Mindanao, A Philippine island, which triggered a volcanic eruption in the north of Borneo Island. The island was formed by the eruption of mud and rock.

To protect the unspoiled and uninhabited islands of Pulau Tiga and the two adjacent islands namely the Pulau Kalampunian Besar and Pulau Kalampunian Damit, Pulau Tiga National Park was established by the Malaysian Government in 1985. The Palau Tiga is home to many rare, exotic and interesting animal species. It has numerous mammals, exotic birds, reptiles and amphibians and hundreds of insects can be found on Pulau Tiga. Visitors and tourist will see various animals such as proboscis and macaque monkeys, flying foxes, bats, monitor and lizards. You will also see a number of birds species such as megapodes, hornbills and sea eagles.

The waters that surrounded Palau Tiga Island is also home of awesome and exotic underwater creatures. Visitors and tourist especially those people who love scuba diving will see the beauty of the underwater life such beautiful corals reefs and exotic marine life. You can find very rich variety of marine life such as nudibranchs. bamboo sharks, barradua, sharks, sea turtles, cuttlefish,marbled stingray and of banded sea snakes. The unexplored waters Palau Tiga are waiting to be explored.

The Palau Tiga is also the home of many species of trees, plants in mangroves, swamps, and lowland forests. How to get there to Pulau Tiga Natural Park:

By Road
From Kota Kinabalu, drive 140km south to Kuala Penyu at the Klias Peninsula, then board a boat to the islands.

By Sea
The islands are 18km away and about 45 minutes by boat. Some tour agents also organise tours and ferry services to the islands.
